Phone Psalm

The following is a parody on smart phones in the style of the 23rd Psalm (“The Lord is my shepherd.”) I used it in a sermon recently about the difference between information and Wisdom.

1 My phone is my blind guide, it makes me to want.

2 As I lay down in blue light, it won’t let me stop long enough to discover wise counsel.

3 It draineth my soul and guides my finger to buy things for my insecurities’ sake.

4 Yea, though I scroll through a river of faces, I feel very lonely, for they look happier than me. their success and travel, they disturb me.

5 It spreads an array of time killer games in the presence of earth’s beauty, it blindeth my sight – my eyes turneth red.

6 Surely text messages and emojis shall follow me at the most inconvenient times and my monthly bill shall increaseth forever.

Compare this to the King James Version:

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
